Leela's Room Reveal

Okay, I admit, I was dragging up my feet in making this blog (I do have an excuse - I've been trying to bake the most challenging bread recipe I've encountered for months now). I decorated this room a year ago but I couldn't find the perfect pillows to match. There were so many pictures floating on the Internet with those adorable snoozies but I could not seem to find them locally. Ordering from out of the country was not an option 'coz 1.) I need to rob a bank first for that to happen and 2.) it's too much trouble that I didn't want to sign up for.

I've envisioned soft grays covered with white/pastel dots/stars/cloud. Even finding fabrics with these specs seemed to be a daunting prospect. Once, we (hubby and I) even walked a street filled with so many threads in Divi but all the sales people could show us were tacky printed ones of Barbie and Hello Kitty! From then on, I knew I had to sew those pillows myself, using whatever "okay" cloth that I can find. So after months of putting it on the back burner, I finally nerved myself up and put that relic of a sewing machine to good use. Yes, I'm quite handy with a sewing machine, I wouldn't win any sewing contest anytime soon though. Our machine is manual and quite old but does the job efficiently so no complaints here. About the space...I wanted white, soft grays with hints of pastels and pops of black. Gone were the days when a girl's room is covered in pink. And anyways, Leela's favorite color is teal and one of her names is Lilac so she would not forgive me if I do not work those colors into her space. She has lots of LPS (Littlest Pet Shop), Shopkins and other tiny toys so I had to make an easy storage for them too. And because she wanted a bunk bed I knew I had to use the space below as a storage/play area.

These animals were supposed to be DIY felt boxes from National Bookstore. I didn't make them into boxes, instead, i sewed them into pillows.

Here they are... I personally put every stitch on that sleeping cloud, striped rectangles, zebra box, pink-gabled house and put some tutu on that ready-made cookie monster. After months of putting it off, i finished these things in under a day, how ironic is that huh?

I thumb-printed the leaves of that tree, 'coz the paint brush just ain't doin' the job right.

I wanted some storage space for her iPad so i stuck some Velcro on a cloth and attached it to the headboard where she can easily slide the iPad in after using at night.

She can pull off the fabric from the board and use it as an iPad holder too.

A shelf on top of the bed holds some picture frame and some toys.

Ain't she a cutie? She's Pumpkin and she's Cinderella's pet.

Both of my kids wanted to be on top of bunk beds so I use the spaces below as storage/play area..

The play area below...

A tip in decorating your child's room: keep the toys that are not in use in a separate storage area, otherwise it will be chaos all the time!

She's more into pets than dolls so a pet store was put up instead of the traditional dollhouse.

Since she loves reading, a cloud-shaped book-stand was made to store some books.

These bins are tied to the bed with ribbons so they're completely removable. Leela stores her headphones, charger, books and invites here.

I can't stop myself from taking more snaps...

Making these cookies took longer than sewing those pillows - bummer :(

Because i haven't got a strathmore paper on hand, I grabbed an envelope, drew a ballerina and sewed the tulle for a skirt on it. Great idea of mine... NOT! :) I copied it from Internet the Great (theirs did not come as an envelope though).

My li'l boy, Noah, once asked me,

"Mommy, what are girls made of?"

(a little bit crankily) "I dunno, flesh and blood....?"

"No! They're made up of sugar and spice and everything nice."

Yep, he got that right.

That's it guys, hope you like it.

Till next...

And oh, I'm a new hand on this DSLR thing, 'coz believe it or not, I've been using just a camera phone on my previous blogs (aside from the Christmas Tree Reveal blog here of course, which i guilted my hubby into using his camera). So the pictures for this one came out all messed up, sorry, but it looks nicer in reality though, truly!
