Boy's Room Shelving: At Rope's End

It was so simple, really...
I wanted to make extra shelving for my son's things. Like clock-work, every couple of weeks, he fills a bin with toys. We don't buy him that much toys but we have so many bins/boxes-filled toys at home. I guess he got them thru birthday parties, Happy Meals and Kinderjoys. Anyway, you can't go wrong with extra storage space right?
So I bought a piece of wood and i ask my 2 "favorite" handymen to cut and nail the wood together. They're not carpenters but they're always in our house doing lots of stuffs including carpentry work.
I instructed them to cut and assemble something like this

and let them have at it. A couple of hours later they gave me something like this

What the ..cakes!!!
I was busy cooking this

for my daughter's school party and i didn't check on them.
I was so mad 'coz i specifically told them not to put anything on the surface 'coz i didn't want to paint it and to take really good care of the wood because it was the soft kind (but i like the color and graining anyway, so..).
It was so crude and pretty banged-up!
Some part of the wood were chipped off. It was full of nails that were showing. But the worst was they put wood fillers in it!
Now, wood fillers are great, IF you want to paint the wood surface after or if it's color-matched with the wood. But NOT if you want it bare with all those wood grains showing, and definitely NOT if it's colored PINK!
So to maintain good interpersonal relationship (after a lot of ball-busting) i let them break it apart, chisel away the hated wood filler and start all over again (with me at their backs and having a bead on them).
We didn't have extra wood with us, and buying new ones were not an option (we live a couple of towns away from the city and it was almost 5pm), so I'm at the end of the ROPE here.
A side of the shelf didn't survive after all that hacking and whacking..

That's me using the grinder to smoothen out those bumps and bruises after it has been nailed together.

Also me painting the insides with "sunshine yellow"- colored paint. All part of the plan, to paint the insies but leave the outsies natural and bare.

Hmm, coming up nicely but what about the ruined side...???
Then, inspiration struck,
Did I say ROPE?
I've got extra ropes so WHY NOT?

TADA.....

The result of eating all those McNuggets...

hope you liked it.
XOXO
